Halloween Haunted Houses

This was a school wide assignment for grades three through six .

example started by student, abandoned, finished by me

 

We started with the idea of drawing the house.  They were good at adding the architectural details.  The classes could look at a 14 inch high sculpture of a Victorian house with a turret.  They also passed around a rubber stamp block that had an image of a old house.  They see enough Halloween images in real life, so they had no trouble being inspired to create the atmosphere of the holiday around the yard. 

They kept track of the number of minutes they worked on the piece.  If over sixty minutes, they converted it to hours.

Update on the Apple Slice Sculptures

Four sections of third grade and we got quite a lot accomplished on the apple slice sculptures.

 

Getting the first coil rolled.

 

Medium tightness on the round quilled strip of paper.

 

painted cores, tape wrapped, or stapled cardstock in ivory or pale yellow

 

Many already have an excellent start.

 

one more class and they should be done.

Second Graders Work on Leaf Sculptures

Thursday afternoon the children were checking over their work for loose coils or gaps

Some were already done and got busy doing  mini drawing of a coil leaf and were able to sculpt 4 or 5 extra strips over the drawing.

Apple Slice Sculpture

I found this idea on Pinterest, but the connection just went to a broken link.  Just went by the photo and started with a rolled up cylinder for the center on my example.  For the classes of third grade, I let them chose from cardboard tubes or stapled card stock.

We are collecting sticks and crimping the paper for the apple skins.
